Choose Your Own Political Speech

by F.Scarlett on October 18th, 2011 at 5:34 AM

We’ve created a speech for Our American Myth – that’s not quite right. We’ve created a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure speech for Our American Myth. Each night our audience will vote on five hot-button issues, and our Cowgirl Politician will tailor her speech to reflect the values her constituents for the evening. Who would you vote for?

Just choose your preference to each question and click ‘See My Speech’

Choose Your Own Speech:

Question 1:

Politicians should work to create a nation that is best for the whole population, not just those who share their views.  Politicians’ choices should reflect their own views and moral background, and the views and beliefs of their constituents.

Question 2:

Government should stay out of the marketplace whenever possible, and not rack up huge debts on entitlement programs.  The role of government is to provide essential services, ensuring the public’s best interests are met.

Question 3:

Hate speech is not free speech.  Flag burning is not free speech.

Question 4:

I would prefer to vote for a pro-life candidate.  I would prefer to vote for a pro-choice candidate.

Question 5:

Bipartisanship and compromise are the only path to a successful government.  An elected representative’s chief duty is to protect the best interests of her constituents.

Citizens, I wholeheartedly sympathize with your frustration. Our political process is agonizingly slow. Since I took office- since you elected me, I’ve had to work against it every day.I have pledged my life, and my work, to making this country into a nation that truly reflects our Christian heritage. I renew that promise every day—for you. I do it for your children, your husbands, your wives, and for each and every American who believes in a great future for this great nation.

Citizens, I wholeheartedly sympathize with your frustration. Our political process is agonizingly slow. Since I took office- since you elected me, I’ve had to work against it every day.I have pledged my life, and my work, to making this country a better, more just and equal place. I renew that promise every day—for you. I do it for your children, your husbands, your wives, and for each and every American who believes in a great future for this great nation.

I recognize that we have reached an economic breaking point, but that doesn’t mean that we can neglect the essential services that our government provides. It is irresponsible to hold our nation hostage over an issue as monumentally important as the debt ceiling.

I agree that our government has gotten slow, and unwieldy. I am for a smaller, more fiscally responsible government— one without a blank check to pass our debts onto our children, and our children’s children.

Our conversation and our laws should be based in ideas, not intimidation that threatens our American way of life and breeds only division and hate. A man’s right to free speech ends when he chooses to torch the American Flag in the town square.

Our conversation and our laws should be based in ideas, not intimidation that threatens our American way of life and breeds only division and hate. A man’s right to free speech ends when he chooses to burn a cross in his neighbor’s front yard.

The choices we make reflect our deepest values and our vision for what our country should be. And how can we trust a woman with a child if we can’t trust her with a choice?

The choices we make reflect our deepest values and our vision for what our country should be. And when did a woman’s right to choose become a woman’s right to murder?

These are tough issues but we need to recognize that we must hold true to our beliefs, and fight for real change. We cannot give up our convictions in the name of bipartisanship.

These are tough issues but we need to recognize that compromise doesn’t happen immediately. It happens when we make small sacrifices in order to step forward, and when we’re willing to listen to the other side’s point of view. Each of those steps may be small, but they move us forward as a nation.
